Will Lamine Yamal’s Emergence Spell the End of Ansu Fati’s Barca Career?

In March, Ansu Fati’s father, Bori, made a phone call to the Spanish radio program COPE to voice concerns about his son’s relationship with the club. His complaints revolved around one key issue: according to him, his son wasn’t getting enough playing time. Consequently, Bori advised his son to consider leaving the club – even suggesting that Real Madrid could be a potential destination.

His outburst drew Barcelona into another public relations saga surrounding a talented but often injury-plagued forward. Ansu Fati was once hailed as the ‘new Messi,’ someone predicted to commit to the Barca lineup for years to come. He scored more goals in his debut season than Messi did in his first season at Catalunya, breaking some records the Argentine had set. Additionally, Fati was another La Masia graduate, just as Messi appeared to be on the decline, creating a sense of excitement.

However, a string of injuries and on-field inconsistency have prevented Fati from living up to the early promise. Now, he stands at a crucial crossroads. Fati has somewhat regained his best form since his parents’ outburst, and a promising preseason suggests he still has much to offer.

But time may be running out. Another talented teenage player, arguably in better form, has emerged, and with Barca needing to generate funds to support their summer transfer activities, Xavi has admitted that Fati may be on the verge of departure.

So, Fati now has just two weeks to rescue his Barcelona career and prove that he still possesses the talent that once earned him praise as a potential world-class superstar.
